A post on CDSMU (;

by StaticVoid on Apr.02, 2009, under StaticVoid

Hello readers!

Today is a little something about my hobby, which I just cannot stop doing, I must host something on my server:

Specs: 2.7Ghz Quad Core, 4GB Ram, Windows XP Pro

I’ve been hosting servers for almost 2 years now, from simple websites to company websites and much recently, well 1 year ago, private game servers. I have to admit i miss hosting Maplestory which went strong for 7 months before Nexon started taking action on such stuff and so, well byebye to it. However.. Elijah, my classmate together with me worked for a month or so and hosted MU Online which is perfectly legal AFAIK.

We started small, with free sources and worked our way up the ranks. Now the top 10 in ranking websites for a SG Based server, mostly thanks to the avid supporters who helped the server grow, both financially and player wise. Donations peaked at $600  a person to $2175 total and going in just 4 months. The money has gone to file domain names, special DNS services,  file hosting fees, forum fees, electricity, raw bandwidth and even paid server files! And all the donations from Singaporeans! Who said Singaporeans are stingy? MU is kind of an old game backdating many years ago  yet still sporting an active community today.

Feel free to experience it today with your fellow Singaporeans! Of course, anyone else from other countries are welcome to join our community. The forums is also where you can interact with others in a safe controlled environment. It has about 2000 unique visitors a month from all countries and almost 10,000 visits. Join today!

CDSMU - www.cdstp.com | forums.cdstp.com

For any of you who do need some hosting space and do not mind subdomains of cdstp.com and more(ask) just drop me a request and I will gladly setup for you. People I know only though.

p.s

Conficker looked very much like a bad April Fool’s Joke..

by StaticVoid on Mar.23, 2009, under StaticVoid

Details:

Not inclusive of food @ courts and repairing of bike.

Name: Track 002

Distance: 29.7 kilometers
Elapsed Time: 3:24:25
Avg/Max Speed: 8.585/22.8 km/h

Max Altitude: 69 m
Start Location:

Started late from Serangoon Stadium, and halfway to Courts, Ben got a puncture. So not only did we have lesser time now, but have to cycle out of planned route to find a cycle shop somewhere around Tampines (first went to Pasir Ris).

Had lunch at Courts cafe. Beef Lasagna and Ice Cream waffle!

Sorry, the lasagna was too delicious that we all forgot to snap a shot :(

Photos from the trip, too tired to blog more today..

After a long time of an inactive lifestyle…

by StaticVoid on Mar.22, 2009, under StaticVoid

I went for cycling with Joshua today at 5pm to find myself panting like mad after cycling up a medium slope.. used to be able to do upper pierce super steep slopes with ease(well kinda)!

Got these statistics/ data readings with my GPS on iphone and 1 pic i took along the way.. I hope I can survive tomorrows trip to my poly from Serangoon > Kovan > Tampines!

Route Taken

Route Taken

Went through a road we never went before, found out it loops back to the start! Left my bottle back along the loop and had to cycle back.. (notice the retrace at one point and it was a hill! ): )

Will definitely be tracking the route tomorrow and more photos along the way!

Goal: At least 12 ~ 15km/hr average tomorrow to reach TP in 45 Minutes.

What a new year!

by StaticVoid on Feb.13, 2009, under StaticVoid

Firstly, exams are round the corner and suffice to say I just need to have an A to be able to get an overall A for all my subjects! All my project results are currently at A and term tests, labtests to! Hopefully to pull up my GPA to more than 3.5 with this semester.

Edit: ComMunication SKills 3(CMSK3) sucks so thats why the Strikethrough.. I’m not expecting an A or even hoping for one. Just want to clear it.

I am already expecting an F for the Cross Disciplinary Subject Life Sciences & You. Its totally crap and I WILL definitely retake another CDS, and definitely NOT a Science type. Seriously, I just suck at it. Probably public speaking will be better for me.

Secondly.. Bryan just jumped the ship from Starhub to Singtel. He terminated most of his hub plans, i.e. landline, mobile and internet for Singtel’s Mio Home + Mobile. Since he already bought a C905 less than a month ago, he got an iPhone and sold it to me at $950. He’s happy. I’m happy. :D

iPhone was great, except for the fact that there were several issues with the stock one:

  1. No MMS support (receive/send)
  2. Insane GPRS Charges due to data fetching/pulling (cannot turn off!!?)
  3. No Video Recorder/ Sound Recorder
  4. Unable to send/receive files via Bluetooth (apparently its 2.0 EDR Bluetooth is for headset only)
  5. Camera unable to change settings (color, zoom, megapixel etc)

I definitely cant live with the above so..

I jailbroke my iPhone myself, saving $30 if went to shops. Installed 3rd party applications such as BossPrefs, Cycorder and stuff.

Now I can do alot of stuff, disable GPRS, and video quality was the best I ever saw in all my phones. I just cant receive/send files via bluetooth, eagerly awaiting iBluetooth application to be out to fix the problem. The wonders of having an open community (; And tons of games! Also customised the iPhone with themes and such.

I also signed up for starhubs data value pack, @ $5/month for GPRS 3G speeds for the occasional on the go emails checks, web surfing on my iphone.  The plan gives 10mb of bundled data, which is little. Excess is charged at 0.32 cents per kb in 2kb blocks. However, the cap is $36 inc. GST total charge including the $5 monthly, which makes it a unlimited mobile broadband plan for $36. And without contract too, so I am trying it out now. Ultimately I will jump to Singtel’s student plan for its free Caller ID 12 Months, which I can recontract yearly to keep enjoying it, free campus calls and also for the BroadBand On Mobile 30GB 1Mbps plan at only $22 before discount!  I honestly dont think I will ever exceed 30GB on casual usage. Can even double up as internet if I connect my iPhone to my laptop to do those stuff in school which have their ports blocked, such as Remote Accessing my server :D This will have to wait till November though.. damn contract.

Below are some pictures taken directly from the iPhone screenshot function, like PrtSc on Windows:

In order left to right, Home Screen, Applications page 1, 2, 3, Quality of Games in iPhone, Role Models Elijah and JI, quality of Video (direct screenshot of video playback)

by StaticVoid on Jan.15, 2009, under StaticVoid

Firstly, projects are being chipped off bit by bit, easing the load. Secondly.. I have been on a skipping spree :D.. thirdly.. heres some photos for the Open House @ TP 2009. On a sidenote, getting girls into Cyber & Digital Security is a force to be reckoned with. Have to thank Bryan on his almost 99% sure go in girl into our course :D

School is back and so is the Stress @_@

by StaticVoid on Jan.03, 2009, under StaticVoid

Slacking during hols has its benefits and its disadvantages.. lets see..

Slack:

Get to enjoy hols to the maximum

Dota everyday

Go out and enjoy with friends

Now the consequences:

Spent alot of money ($400++)

Projects all piled up, (DBIS, SAS, OOPG, HTM, LFS&u, CMSK) 6 freaking projects all dateline within 1 month of school starting!!! Thats 30days/6 = 5days / project on average — Slowly pulling through!!

No mood to start project, holiday mood..

I believe quite a lot of people are like me now (; Some are even worse.. so yea

Term test results are out next week, expecting a phail for LifeScience&U.. rest shd be AOK.

Happy New Year (late T.T)

New Year Resolution?
